Cell 8: Attitudes/ Habits/Self Awareness for Post- Secondary Expectations Study/Test taking skills Administer the Study Skills Inventory from Informal Assessments for Transition Planning (IATP), p. 88. This 3-point rating scale is an informal self-assessment that covers a variety of study skills, including reading rate, note taking, report writing, understanding and using graphic aids, test preparation, etc.

    Administer the Student Styles Questionnaire (SSQ) to students. Patterned after the widely used Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, the SSQ evaluates students using four scales: Introversion/ Extraversion; Thinking/Feeling; Practical/ Imaginative; and Organized/Flexible

Students respond to 69 questions related to real-life situations to express their individual styles. Results are useful for grouping students for cooperative learning tasks, exploring vocational choices, assisting in social and emotional counseling, and planning intervention strategies.

  Personal learning characteristics/ learning styles Administer one or more learning styles inventories. There are several alternatives, all of which provide information on students’ preferences for accessing and expressing information and conditions under which these tasks occur. Among frequently used inventories are the following:
    Administer the Things That Are Difficult for Me form from Informal Assessments for Transition Planning (IATP), p. 100, to the student. This checklist is an informal self-assessment self-assessment that provides students a simple way of expressing how they feel about the learning process.
